Uber board picks CEO of Expedia as chief executive

Uber has finally selected a new CEO — naming Expedia’s chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi.

The company’s board made the choice following a weekend of deliberations, according to Recode.

But while members have made a decision, sources told the tech website that Khosrowshahi had still not been officially offered the job as of 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Uber’s board reportedly chose Expedia CEO over former General Electric chairman Jeff Immelt and Hewlett Packard Enterprise chief executive Meg Whitman.

The three finalists met with members over the weekend, with Immelt withdrawing his name on Sunday due to a lack of support. Sources told the New York Times that members had been leaning toward Whitman, but changed their minds last minute.

The decision marks the end of Uber’s nearly year-long search for a new leader after former CEO Travis Kalanick stepped down back in June amid a slew of controversies.

Khosrowshahi, who is also on the board of The New York Times Company, has been president and CEO of the Expedia since 2005.

Before arriving at the online travel company, the former investment banker made a name for himself as an executive at IAC/InterActiveCorp.
