Why Halloween is the Best Holiday of the Year

I love Halloween. I think it’s the best holiday of the entire year. It’s not only the best US holiday but it also beats all the Russian holidays. For someone who was born and raised in Russia, to say that Halloween is better than the New Year’s celebration is a big deal. And I am saying that. Here are my why’s:

1. There are no constraints, rules or obligations for Halloween. You want to dress up, go for it. You don’t want to wear a costume, that’s fine too. You feel like giving some goodie bags out, be my guest. If you are totally against giving away cheap, breakable staff; you don’t have to feel guilty of skipping goodie bags (they’re way too overrated for any occasion). If you want to give out dental floss instead of candy to trick-or-treaters, you can do it. Your house may not be popular but it’s your call on what you deem to be the best trick-or-treaters’ giveaway.
2. Your imagination can run wild on Halloween. From kid friendly parties to adult phantasy and ‘no kids allowed’ soirees, Halloween lets you express your ‘inner freak’. While kids get to be kids on any day of the year, Halloween allows serious and responsible adults to let loose and escape from realities of everyday life.
3. Halloween coincides with the celebration of the Dia de los Muertos, the holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to remember friends and family members who have died. It is a true treat to partake in Dia de los Muertos celebrations whenever you get a chance. It has wonderful and vibrant symbols and imagery, delicious food infused with meaning and families coming together. People gather in local graveyards to share food, music and fun while honoring their loved ones. It’s like two for one special.

Halloween is like a free spirited child born out of pagan traditions that let’s you enjoy as much or as little of its fun and traditions as you want. Don’t let it pass you by. Enjoy it and let loose. Eat as much candy as you want. Watch a classic horror movie. Stop by at a haunted house. Halloween’s bag of tricks can’t be beat.
