Australia’s youngest parents having second baby

She fell pregnant with her son Theodore when she was 13, and now Melbourne schoolgirl Mollie Syrigos is expecting her second child – all before she celebrates her sweet 16th.

Mollie was one of Australia’s youngest mums when she welcomed her son last year with her 16-year-old partner Oscar Wilks.

The Year 11 student’s latest pregnancy has come as a surprise, but Mollie knows she’s up to the challenge, revealing her first child Theodore wasn’t planned either.

“For a couple of months I didn’t have much support. Everyone was trying to persuade me to get an abortion which wasn’t too fun, it was very difficult actually,” she told nine.com.au.

“But I stuck to it because I couldn’t ever imagine getting rid of such an amazing thing. I had no doubt in my mind about this baby I was carrying, which is now a little 13-month-old.”

The couple live together in the Melbourne suburb of Surry Hills with Oscar’s dad, with Mollie adamant her age shouldn’t define her abilities as a parent.

Claiming teen pregnancy is ‘very common’, Mollie loves being a mum and is more than up for the challenge – despite the judgement she faces.

“Still to this day we get dirty looks and rude comments, people messaging me on Facebook and calling me.”

“But I don’t really mind. It’s totally worth the judgement to be honest.”

Currently studying at Swinburne University of Technology, Mollie is determined to continue her education after her second bub arrives.

“I’d love to go to university and follow through with my education and be a good role model for my kids,” she said.
