On Wednesday, Billie Eilish shocked fans by showing off a new platinum blond shag hairstyle, ditching the neon green roots she’s had since 2019.
“Pinch me,” the 19-year-old singer captioned an Instagram photo debuting her lightened-up look.

Though the color came as a complete surprise to her followers, fans of the young star have been anticipating a big change for a while; in December, she announced plans to change her signature ‘do and start “a new era” following her documentary “Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry.”
However, she also jokingly threatened to withhold new music unless speculation about her appearance stopped: “I am making you a f—king album,” she said in an Instagram Story in December. “I will not put it out if you keep making fun of my hair.”
Eagle-eyed fans anticipated that Eilish would unveil something soon, as many speculated that she appeared to wear a wig at the 2021 Grammys and has been methodically covering her scalp in recent photos.

Eilish settled on her green-and-black mullet by accident; after desperately trying to get rid of a blue dye job, she covered it with black and dyed the roots green — but an overdose of chemicals burned off some of the front ends, leaving the “Therefore I Am” singer with an unintentionally on-trend mullet.
Over the past few years, she’s sported hair colors ranging from blue to black to lavender.
