Silverman began her career as a writer for the long-running NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. After being fired from Saturday Night Live, Silverman starred in the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show from 1995 to 1997 and had starred in the 1997 independent film Who’s the Caboose?. On July 3, 1997, Silverman made her television standup comedy debut on The Late Show with David Letterman.
