Iskra Lawrence is one of the most recognizable faces in the plus-size modeling industry, having worked extensively with retailer Aerie and landed a number of other high-profile campaigns. As a celebrity, she uses her fame to act as a champion for body positivity by advocating for individualism worldwide.
The 26-year-old recently posted scantily clad, unretouched images from a photo shoot with Brooklyn-based photographer Ashley Wilson. Alongside a collage of images, Lawrence attached an inspiring quote from her recent TED talk, which focused on the role of body image and self-esteem in women’s lives. “When you give up the pursuit of perfection, watch your life positively grow,” she wrote.
The model also included a nice note to the photographer, writing, “Because we are all good enough, and what’s beautiful is that we’re imperfectly perfect and all one of a kind. Thank you @ashleyjophoto for celebrating women in your shoots and never retouching me — love you. #iskralawrence #everyBODYisbeautiful.”
She also tweeted the image, captioning the post, “No retouching because we are all imperfectly perfect.”
Wilson posted a number of other images from the shoot, with Lawrence wearing only a light pink, long-sleeved shirt and underwear.
The powerful unedited images align with the strong message Lawrence delivers to her 3 million followers every day. Although posting these images is just a small step in spreading the message, Lawrence is known for resorting to extreme measures to get her point across.
In November 2016, the model delivered an empowering speech on body acceptance in the most unconventional way — by stripping on the subway in New York City. With the English model’s recent TED talk and the features she keeps her followers in the loop on, it looks like Lawrence has a big year ahead of her.
