Our reader testers give their verdict on Lancome, YSL, Gosh and Pur beauty products to help you get that perfect summer make-up look
The hot months require a totally different kind of lip service.
Pick pretty, light colours to give you a perfect summery pout.
Here’s our guide to four of the best…
1. Lancôme Shine Lover, £21
Beauty ed : The science bit: for a radiant, healthy summer glow, Lancôme has discovered the trick is to enhance your lip colour by one shade. Enter its new lippy, super-sheer, in 20 summer shades, that adds a cute, rosy glow simply perfect for summer.
Reader tester says : “I loved these! The smell made me think of cocktails in Ibiza and the gorgeous, buildable colours were really sexy. Plus they weren’t sticky at all, so no hair or sand plastered to my lips.” – Naomi English, London
2. YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil, £23.50
Beauty ed : YSL has form for producing groundbreaking lip products, having started the ‘liquid lipstick’ revolution. This is another genuine first, although perhaps not quite as groundbreaking – a moisturising, tinted, oil gloss. It’s less sticky than a gloss, glossier than a stain and with more pigment than a balm. In eight sheer colours.
Reader tester says : “The colour in these is really subtle – nice for a holiday or daytime look. The shine fades after an hour or so, but the tint lasts longer and they are nicely hydrating. I loved that they smell like watermelon sweets. Overall, though, I didn’t think the look was that different to using a high-shine gloss, except that it’s more expensive.” Sarah Clarke, Devon
3. Gosh Forever Lip Shine, £6.99
Beauty ed : Somewhere between a lipstick, a balm and a tint, the 10 sheer-but-buildable shades are easy to wear and pretty, plus they’re a bargain.
Reader tester says : “Really nice colours, especially the nude shades, and I like the lighter-than-lipstick feel of them on my lips. If I’m being picky, they’re more ”satin” than “shine” and more “couple of hours” than “forever”, but I’m still impressed.” Clara Stone, Lancs
4. Pür Pout Pen, £14.50
Beauty ed : I don’t think there’s a more fun way to apply lip colour than a felt tip pen. One problem with a pen is that it dries out your lips. This doesn’t – you can wear the stain alone, but it looks even prettier with the matching balm over the top. In four bright, beautiful shades.
Reader tester says : “Easy to use and the colours are gorgeous. Even the slightly purple ‘Sangria’ shade was flattering, as long as you like brights – more choices would be good, though. I’ve used lip duos before, but it’s the best I’ve tried.” Lisa Brunswick, Cambs
