DRESS DISTRESS I worry my husband will push away our son after finding out he dresses as a woman

OUR son recently told us he dresses as a woman on his days off work.

It came as a huge shock to me and my husband.

I am beginning to accept the situation, but my husband is really struggling to come to terms with it.

I can’t understand why my husband can’t see he needs to be supportive rather than judgmental.

I am worried he is pushing our son away and we will lose him over this.

We have told our son we don’t want him wearing women’s clothes when he visits us and I’m comfortable with that, but my husband takes it much further.

My husband and I are both in our 60s.

He often rants about anyone with a tattoo or piercings and can’t tolerate same-sex couples. I didn’t realise how bigoted he really is.

I don’t know how to help him or our son, who must have gone through hell to tell us this.

My husband says he is just too old to deal with this.

Men brought up in a macho culture can feel the need to express their gentler side through dressing as a woman.

This has come as a shock, but your son is harming no one. Remember, he is still the same person.
