Baby ‘left with broken nose’ after being dropped by flight attendant

A baby girl reportedly suffered serious head injuries when a flight attendant dropped her capsule down the steps of a budget aircraft and she fell out.

The five-month-old fell from her portable cradle as she was carried down the steps of a plane in Surgut, Russia, and was immediately taken to hospital, according to local reports.

The infant was treated for a broken nose and suffered internal bruising that led to concussion, The Mirror reported.

The baby was reportedly travelling with her mother from Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea to Serbia on a Pobeda flight – a low-cost operator owned by airline Aeroflot.

The airline confirmed the incident, with a spokesperson issuing an apology, adding that it happened on the plane’s steps in subzero temperatures after landing.

“The air carrier will fully compensate all the expenses associated with the treatment of the child,” the spokesperson told The Mirror.

The spokesperson said “a very careful investigation” was underway.

It is believed the male flight attendant was trying to help the child’s mother who was overloaded with bags, but didn’t realise the baby was not properly strapped in to the capsule before the she fell out.

An anonymous airline source told the news outlet the crew member had tried to visit the baby in hospital to check on her condition, but was denied access for “privacy” reasons.
