Adults in the dark about safe sex as four in ten admit they could not spot signs of STDs

A study found almost six in ten felt schools were not doing enough to teach teenagers about the importance of safe sex.

Four out of 10 adults admit they could not spot the signs of a sexually transmitted disease, a poll has revealed.

The research also found 28% of under-25s would not bother having a check-up after having unprotected sex on a one-night stand.

Men have a more casual attitude with half of 18-24-year-olds believing its only necessary to see a doctor if there are any untoward symptoms after unprotected sex, compared with a third of all adults.

A study by market analysts Mintel found almost six in ten felt schools were not doing enough to teach teenagers about the importance of safe sex.

Spokesperson Lucy Cornford said the popularity of dating websites were in danger of creating hotbeds of casual sex.

“Young adults, and young men in particular, display a worrying lack of concern over the dangers of unprotected sex and the consequences of not taking care of sexual health,” she said.

“The rapid growth of free dating apps has facilitated a culture of casual sexual encounters, particularly amongst adults under-35.”

And on the million dollar question of how many times a week Brits enjoyed a spot of nookie, the survey found one in five Brits had three nights of passion a week.

Londoners were the randiest with 11% claiming to have sex every day – way ahead of their nearest love rivals in the north west where 4% said they made love daily.
