Models, Influencers, and Modelfluencers alike all love the affordable and environmentally friendly handbag lines by JW Pei. The “Gabbi” bag is a favorite of models Emily Ratajkowski, Irina Shayk, and Mischaela Elkins. With the latter two owning the timeless but incredibly current bag in black. EmRata owns the “Gabbi” bag in orange and the label’s color “beer”. Versatile, compact, and made with a lining created from fabric that is processed recycled plastic bottles – it’s no wonder this bag has become a must for the updated 90s looks that are en vogue today.
Grazia reported on Emily’s outfit pairings with the affordable $65 hobo/baguette bag hybrid. Emily, Irina, and Mischaela all team the bag with off-duty street wear looks that mix luxe pieces with athleisure wear. No stranger to working with brands that leverage environmentally sustainable and recycled fabrics, Irina Shayk and Mischaela Elkins are both brand ambassadors for Italian-label Intimissimi. Irina fronted the brand for a number of years, as the face of Intimissimi after Ana Beatriz Barros, and Mischaela is a brand ambassador for the Intimissimi activewear line “In Action” which is made from organic cotton that is free from pesticides, chemicals, and negative impact to local water and farming communities.
An additional parallel between the model/influencer work of Irina Shayk and Mischaela Elkins is their involvement with L’Oreal Paris. Irina was tapped to be an international brand ambassador for the cosmetics company, and Mischaela has begun working as a brand ambassador for the Biotherm line by L’Oreal’s luxury division. On Biotherm’s website “Since 2012, Biotherm has shown its determination to help preserve the world’s oceans with its Water Lovers program. The result of that commitment has been a lasting transformation of the cosmetic brand and a series of practical initiatives. Water is at the heart of Biotherm’s DNA. It’s also at the heart of its products, and particularly its flagship ingredient, Life Plankton™. The mission of the Water Lovers program is to inspire positive change in the beauty industry by developing innovative processes for the conservation of the world’s oceans, which provide more than 50% of the oxygen produced on Earth. As a first step, the brand wanted to embrace change itself, by making a commitment to have zero negative impact on water resources by 2025.”
In addition to working with L’Oreal and Biotherm, Mischaela is working with LA MER and the Blue Heart Ocean Fund campaign, Shiseido, Swarovski and the Water School initiative, Selfridges and their Ocean programs, and Parley for the Oceans as part of her Ocean Conservation and Water Preservation platform during her 2021 Miss Peru and Miss Global Indigenous Americas concurrent reigns. The model, influencer, and beauty queen is poised to make an impact as a brand ambassador and leading figure in ocean friendly beauty and fashion.
Aside from L’Oreal, Intimissimi, and JW Pei – Irina Shayk and Mischaela Elkins share a love for the same sustainable and environmentally friendly swimwear brands. Irina was the face of Miami’s Luli Fama 2011 campaign and lookbook and has worked with competitor brands Beach Bunny swimwear and Agua Bendita. Mischaela Elkins will compete in the 2021 edition of the Miss Vizcaya Swimwear spokesmodel contest to be the face of the 2021 campaign, lookbook, and have a swimsuit designed specifically for and named after her. Just like Irina, she works with Luli Fama, Beach Bunny swimwear, and Agua Bendita as a brand ambassador and model. Although she hasn’t worked with the aforementioned luxury swim brands favored by Irina and Mischaela, EmRata has her own swimwear line, Inamorata, and environmentally conscious business practices are at the heart of her brand. Emily told Glamour UK “I grew up in a drought – sustainability is so important to me. I grew up in California, so I grew up in a permanent drought and we always had limits on water. So from an early age, I’ve been aware of environmental concerns and always been obsessive about recycling and preserving water.”
Additionally, Irina Shayk has appeared as a Victoria’s Secret model after the company improved their processes for materials procurement from more environmentally sustainable sources with less community impact and Mischaela Elkins has lovingly petitioned Victoria’s Secret to seek out more environmentally conscious ways to decrease their retail footprint without throwing away product in the landfill – which can contaminate groundwater. Mischaela Elkins was featured by Victoria’s Secret in the Bombshell Because campaign and given a “Bombshell Nomination” on Bombshell’s Day for their Bombshell fragrance.
