Iris Mittenaere, a 23-year-old dental student from France, has won Miss Universe 2017. Mittenaere, born January 25, 1993, is a French model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe in Manila, Philippines. Mittenaere is the second Miss Universe from France after Christiane Martel, who was elected Miss Universe 1953. She previously won Miss France 2016.
Mittenaere was born in Lille, to Yves Mittenaere, a professor of history and geography, and Laurence Druart, a school teacher and lecturer. Mittenaere has a brother, sister, and half-sister.
Mittenaere attended school in Steenvoorde. In 2011, she graduated lycée with a degree in science. After graduating, she moved back to Lille, where she attended Lille 2 University of Health and Law, studying dentistry.
Mittenaere was crowned by the outgoing winner from the Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, at the packed Mall of Asia Arena by Manila Bay. In her profile, Mittenaere said she would ‘advocate for dental and oral hygiene’ if she took home the crown.
