How to Pack for a Safari – the Smart Way

Many people have problems packing for a weekend trip. There are so many things to remember, so many things that take a moment to forget – those are usually the same things that you spend your whole trip wishing you had!

If you’re a good packer then you have probably developed a list – in your head, on paper, and if you’re very organized, then you have a handy weekend trip list on your smartphone. Did you know that most travel bloggers have a different list for all the different kinds of travel they do?

Imagine having one list for your weekend trip, another for a weekend luxury getaway, a list for your week-long holiday and yet another for a serious trip that’s going to last more than two weeks.

When people go to Africa as tourists, they often don’t have too much time, and if they’re going on a Safari, it might even be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Chances are, you don’t have a ready list in your head for a Safari!

Let us help you: Chesca Direct has supplied us with an infographic about a great way to pack your wardrobe – we’re going to take it a step further and add some items that you must bring if you’re going on an excursion from your hotel.

Although they specialize in upscale fashions, plus size wedding dresses and feminine look, they have developed great materials that can teach you how to keep your wardrobe classy whether travelling or staying at home.

Most Safaris embark from hotels and resorts, and once you have the basics that the infographic recommends, you will only need to remember a few more things:

  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • A Camera with two spare batteries and two spare memory cards
  • Portable power bank
  • Binoculars
  • Metal water bottle
  • Sunscreen – bring a 50 and be careful out there!
  • Insect repellant
  • Small first aid kid – some disinfectant, wipes and band-aids you can fit in your purse
  • zip-off pants and easy-breezy tshirts – the infographic has you all set for your hotel stay, but remember you will also get a bit dirty! This is a perfect list for those of us that like to travel in style, but have plans to go out on excursions away from your resort. Weddings in Africa have been especially popular lately, and as with any destination wedding the guests are very often “in and out”. It’s best to prepare for everything, even if you’re only staying for a few days.
