Canberra man jailed for stabbing breastfeeding wife to death

A Canberra man who stabbed his wife 57 times as she breastfed their baby has been jailed for 30 years.

Maged Al Harazi was found guilty of murdering his wife Sabah Al Mdwali in the ACT Supreme Court in April.

The court heard she was breastfeeding their baby when he launched a frenzied attack in 2015, continuing to stab her in their bedroom after she tried to roll over and protect their young child, the ABC reported.

The 36-year-old phoned police to report the killing, but instructed his son to tell officers his wife’s father and brother were responsible for the attack.

He was sentenced to 30 years behind bars on Thursday.

Al Harazi will not be eligible for parole until 2036 and will likely be deported upon his release.
