Mozhdah Jamalzadah is a very popular singer in Afghanistan. However, she lived most of her life in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. When she only five-years-old, Jamalzadah and her family had to escape a brutal civil war in her home country. But when she got older, she wrote songs that inspired the people of Afghanistan, making her an instant hit in her former home. She touches the hearts of many with her powerful, inspirational lyrics and gorgeous voice.
Jamalzadah is college educated. She studied broadcast journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She also studied political science and philosophy at the University of British Columbia. Jamalzadah is now a model, a singer and a talk show host in her former land of Afghanistan. This 31-year-old inspiration wrote songs that told stories about Afghan heroines, in effect, becoming widely popular to many women listening-in on the radios of Afghanistan. Her song Dokhtare Afghan (Afghan Girl) was an instant hit.
The song “Dokhtare Afghan” was about the bravery of Afghan Women. On International Women’s Day 2010, she sang this song for former US President Barrack Obama and his wife Michelle, becoming the first Afghani to perform at the White House.
She moved back to Afghanistan once she got an offer from an up-and-coming Afghan TV station 1TV. She hosted Afghanistan’s Got Talent. She later created her very own show on that network called The Mozhdah Show. In that show, she discusses some of the taboo topics of life in Afghanistan. She also talks about how it’s like to be a child, a women or a person growing up in a nation often torn apart by war. She provides the world a glimpse into the current situation of Afghanistan through the experiences of individuals living and struggling in their homeland.
