Luke Perry’s daughter Sophie Perry speaks out about his death

Sophie Perry, the 18-year-old daughter of Luke Perry, has broken her silence following her father’s death on Monday, saying nobody is “given a lesson” on handling such a loss.

“A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast,” she wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support.”

In September, Sophie, who lived in Dowagiac, Michigan, posted a video describing her charity work for nonprofit One World Center, and asked for fundraising help for her trip to Africa.

“I’m in a group of eight people, seven of us are going to Africa and one of us is going to Brazil,” she said.

“We’re going to be there for six months, and we’re going to be working on community development projects. These can range from teaching teachers, building schools, helping with agriculture, providing water purification, all types of good stuff.”

Following her dad’s death, Sophie also thanked his fans who have shown her family love. “I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I,” she wrote. “I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bare with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.”

Luke Perry passed away at the age of 52 after suffering a massive stroke last week.

The former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star leaves behind Sophie and his 21-year-old son Jack, both with ex-wife Minnie Sharp. His rep previously told Page Six he was surrounded by his family, friends and fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer at the time of his death.
