Louis Vuitton invites you to go fly a kite with new men’s collection

The Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring 2020 show was definitely one that every LV and Virgil Abloh (the designer behind the label) fan was waiting for this season — and like anything Abloh touches, this collection did not disappoint.

His recipe for success is simple, yet complicated.

First, there were the invites that hinted at one of the many themes throughout the collection. A D.I.Y. kite that — of course — came in the classic LV monogram.

Then, the location was set at the famously picturesque streets of Place Dauphine in Paris, France, which held café-style and park bench seating for guests. The monochromatic red bouncy house was very #extra and guaranteed a social media frenzy.

Next up: clothing and accessories that made you part of the garden: Head-to-toe floral watercolor-printed ensembles to scattered wildflowers on trenches to travel bags.

There were real flowers poking out of bags, on hats and on harnesses. The meaning of the blooms goes beyond just looking pretty, though.

“I’m keen on using flowers as a metaphor for diversity,” Abloh explained to WWD. “When you go to a field, it looks amazing and beautiful from a micro level and a macro level. How does that look beautiful? Not every flower is the same.”

But the runway show’s standout looks refer back to the invites with budding bags strapped onto tops and kites, yes, kites in the matching white and LV monogram.
