Jared Leto lost his head at the 2019 Met Gala.
The 30 Seconds to Mars singer, 47, showed up to the “Camp: Notes on Fashion”-themed event carrying a life-sized replica of his own head, complete with long black hair and piercing blue eyes.
The stunt was plucked straight from Gucci’s fall 2018 runway show, when creative director Alessandro Michele sent models down the runway carrying similar replicas. The gimmick, according to the Italian label’s Instagram, was meant to reflect “the work of a designer — the act of cutting, slicing, reconstructing materials and fabrics to create a new personality and identity with them.”
According to The Cut, Italian special effects firm Makinarium revealed Gucci’s budget to be around €25,000 ($28,005) for the fashion show, but added that they could accommodate any individual’s request for closer to €10,000 ($11,202) per head, depending on the eyes, hair and teeth chosen.
Leto paired his head-turning accessory with a red velvet Gucci dress covered in elaborate crystal embellishments.
The question is: Where (or with whom) will Leto’s head end up once the afterparties begin?
