Elodie Yung stars as Thony De La Rosa, a Cambodian doctor working in Las Vegas in \u201cThe Cleaning Lady,\u201d airing Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.<\/p>\n

Thony came to the US with her young, son, Luca, who urgently needs a bone-marrow transplant. But his donor backed out, leaving mother and son stranded in Sin City and forcing Thony to clean hotels on the Vegas Strip with her sister-in-law, Fiona (Martha Millan), to save money for Luca\u2019s hoped-for medical treatment.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s forced to align with mobster Arman Morales (Adan Canto) after witnessing a gangland murder. He saves her life, but with a caveat: she\u2019s now on his payroll to clean up his messes \u2014 bloody and otherwise \u2014 while he uses his connections to help save Luca\u2019s life. And there\u2019s an FBI angle in the form of Agent Garrett Miller (Oliver Hudson).<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, Thony is not a character, she\u2019s a real person,\u201d said Yung, 40, who grew up in France (she\u2019s Cambodian on her father\u2019s side) and played\u00a0Elektra Natchios on Season 2 of Marvel\u2019s \u201cDaredevil.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s thrown into these situations against her will and she has to find ways to make do and survive \u2014 because otherwise her life and her son\u2019s life will be endangered,\u201d Yung said. \u201cThere\u2019s this constant inner conflict with doing the right thing and, at the same time, there\u2019s pressure because time is ticking away and she needs to find a cure for her son.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe Cleaning Lady\u201d is based on the Argentinian hit \u201cLa Chica Que Lampia\u201d and was adapted for Fox by series creator Miranda Kwok and several executive producers, including former \u201cPretty Little Liars\u201d star Shay Mitchell and Melissa Carter (\u201cStargirl,\u201d \u201cQueen Sugar\u201d).<\/p>\n
