Perez Hilton has built his career as a\u00a0gossip blogger\u00a0since the early 2000s,\u00a0writing some not-so-nice things\u00a0about celebs such as Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.<\/p>\n

In a recent episode of\u00a0\u201cRed Table Talk: The Estefans,\u201d\u00a0Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, discussed\u00a0cancel culture\u00a0and how he has accepted the fact that fans may never forgive him for his\u00a0skewering of young stars back in the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve accepted that, in the minds of the overwhelming majority, I am irredeemable,\u201d the 43-year-old told hosts Gloria Estefan, her daughter Emily Estefan and her niece Lili Estefan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nothing I could ever do \u2014 change, grow, evolve, mature \u2014 to make things right with my past. Like, not even if I donated all of the money that I\u2019ve made over the last year. If I gave it all away, they would say, \u2018OK, that\u2019s nice,’\u201d he continued. \u201c\u2018It still doesn\u2019t erase his past.\u2019 Or, \u2018That\u2019s great. He\u2019s still a d-bag.\u2019 Or, \u2018What an idiot, I can\u2019t believe he gave away all his money.\u2019 I do believe that a lot of people view cancel culture as a form of entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n

he \u201cCelebrity Big Brother\u201d star was also asked by Emily if he felt \u201cpowerful\u201d when he wrote hurtful things about these young stars. \u201cThe word \u2018power,\u2019 to me it never resonated because that would imply that I can force people to do things and I can force people to think a certain way,\u201d Hilton replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could have influence, but I\u2019d like to view it more like opportunity. I had the opportunity to share, and people have the opportunity to receive,\u201d he continued. \u201cI viewed what I did as shining the light. I\u2019m shining the light on celebrities that get it right and those that get it wrong, those that are behaving badly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

The media personality compared celebrity gossip to controlled substances. \u201cI was a drug addict and attention was my drug. I knew what I was doing was bad, and I kept doing it, and I kept being rewarded for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hilton has blogged about Spears numerous times over the course of her career and hasn\u2019t painted her in the best light.<\/figcaption>
