<\/a><\/p>\nWilliam Riley Gaul, 18, was indicted Wednesday in Knox County, Tennessee, on charges of first-degree murder, especially aggravated stalking, tampering with evidence and employing a firearm during a dangerous felony.<\/p>\n
Investigators claim that early on Nov. 21, he fatally shot 16-year-old Emma Walker through a wall in her family\u2019s home in Knoxville, Tennessee, while she slept.<\/p>\n
Gaul was upset that Walker had recently broken up with him, Walker\u2019s family claimed. \u201cShe had chosen to move on,\u201d Walker\u2019s aunt, Jennifer Weldon, told the Knoxville News Sentinel<\/i>.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe refused to accept it,\u201d Weldon said. \u201cHe chose not to accept her wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hours after Walker was shot, Gaul tweeted, \u201cThat\u2019s my beautiful Emma. Rest easy now sweetheart. 1 Corinthians 13:8. Be sure to remind God about our verse.I love you.Forever and always.\u201d The tweet was attached to a lengthy message about her death. <\/p>\n
In the verse to which Gaul referred, the Bible says, \u201cLove never fails.\u201d<\/p>\n
He later posted, \u201cI love you Emma, I can\u2019t be around any of that yet, it\u2019s too soon. I know you know I\u2019m dying to be there but understand I can\u2019t. I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to his indictment, Gaul allegedly stole his grandfather\u2019s gun and used it to kill Walker. He is accused of stalking her starting in October.<\/p>\n
Gaul mentioned killing himself in the days leading up to the shooting, according to a search warrant obtained by the Tennessean<\/i>. His grandfather reported his gun stolen the day before Walker died, according to the paper.<\/p>\n

Gaul was arrested at his Knoxville home on Nov. 22.<\/p>\n
Authorities believe he was planning to get rid of the murder weapon after Walker was killed and had been monitoring him since the shooting but before his arrest, the Knox County Sheriff\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n
Gaul is being held in jail in lieu of a $1 million bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 30.<\/p>\n
It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney. He has not entered a plea to his charges.<\/p>\n
The Victim Was \u2018A Beautiful Soul\u2019<\/b><\/h4>\n
Walker was a \u201cbeautiful soul\u201d who wanted to become a neonatal nurse, Weldon told the News Sentinel<\/i>. (Walker\u2019s family could not be reached by PEOPLE.)<\/p>\n
Walker, an honors student, met Gaul at Central High School in Knoxville, where he played football before he graduated in 2016. He then enrolled in Maryville College, where he played on the football team as a wide receiver before being dismissed following his arrest.<\/p>\n
Two weeks before Walker died, Gaul tweeted, \u201cI\u2019d do anything to have it all back.\u201d<\/p>\n
His Twitter bio still reads: \u201cLiving everyday through Emma Walker. I love you beautiful and I know you\u2019re in a better place now.\u201d His profile picture is of her.<\/p>\n
A room at East Tennessee Children\u2019s Hospital was later named in Walker\u2019s honor, according to WBIR.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe wanted to help. She wanted to be a nurse, she wanted to work with babies in the neonatal unit,\u201d Weldon told the station. \u201cShe had so much potential and so much purpose in her life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
