Controversial rapper\u00a0Tekashi 6ix9ine\u00a0rose to fame through social media. Now, he\u2019s getting a different kind of close-up.<\/p>\n
\u201cSupervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine,\u201d a three-part docuseries that premieres Sunday on Showtime at 10 p.m., goes inside the life of the 24-year-old rapper. Featuring archival footage with Tekashi as well as interviews with others in his circle, the docuseries traces his rise from his days growing up in Bushwick to his infamous 2019 trial,\u00a0when he snitched\u00a0on his former fellow gang members in order to reduce his sentence after being arrested on racketeering, drug trafficking and weapons charges.<\/p>\n
The father of two\u00a0was released early from prison\u00a0last April, due to the coronavirus pandemic. But he hasn\u2019t exactly flown under the radar since then \u2014 the \u201cGummo\u201d MC just got caught\u00a0feuding with Meek Mill\u00a0outside an Atlanta club.<\/p>\n
Director Karam Gill called \u201ca toxic individual\u201d as well as\u00a0\u201ca horrible human being.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tekashi\u2019s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, fired back when reached for comment: \u201cIt\u2019s the furthest thing from the truth. Danny\u2019s talent speaks for itself, and Danny is a good human being.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lazzaro added, \u201cDaniel Hernandez never was interviewed for [the docuseries], and never participated. It is interesting and almost unbelievable without ever having met the person\u2026 how [the director] characterized him. It\u2019s hard to fathom. No one can comment about his talent\u2026 and how he characterized him when he never met the person.\u201d<\/p>\n
Here are some of the biggest revelations about the rainbow-haired artist, born Daniel Hernandez.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou wanna hate him, but you love him, you know what\u00a0I\u2019m saying?\u201d says Tekashi in the first episode about Batman\u2019s wild-eyed antagonist. \u201cBecause he\u2019s the bad guy, but you just end up falling in love with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Daniel Hernandez Sr. was kicked out of the home by Tekashi\u2019s mother, losing contact with his son. Years later, the rapper would depict heroin use in some of his early videos, showing people actually shooting up.<\/p>\n\n
After Tekashi decided not to go with his stepfather to the supermarket one day, Luis Nazario was shot and killed in broad daylight just a block away from home. \u201cWhen they took him away from me, I felt naked,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
The first half of his stage name \u2014 originally his social-media handle \u2014 comes from a neighborhood tattoo artist, who was also a heroin addict. \u201cHe did heroin to create,\u201d Tekashi says of the man who inspired his moniker. \u201cHe did it to get himself in his little world. He did it to be himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 6ix9ine \u2014 his way of styling 69 \u2014 is him reflecting \u201clife in two different perspectives\u201d to his fans: \u201cI\u2019ma show them if I can do it, they can do it.\u201d And then he proceeded to get 69 \u201c69\u201d tattoos.<\/p>\n
Tekashi\u2019s rainbow hair and matching rainbow grill weren\u2019t just for shock value. \u201cOne day I woke up and I said, \u2018Yo, I want my look to be loud,\u2019 \u201d he says. \u201cI felt invisible. I just had to make a loud presence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
After posting a video on Snapchat that he filmed of a 13-year-old girl performing sex acts on another guy, he was\u00a0charged with sexual misconduct\u00a0in 2015. He took a plea deal at the time.<\/p>\n
Sara Molina\u00a0\u2014 his first and longtime girlfriend, who is the mother of his 5-year-old daughter Saraiyah \u2014 claims that she finally left him after one vicious beating. \u201cThis was not the first time that he started putting his hands on me,\u201d she says of \u201chis monster ways.\u201d<\/p>\n
He became a gang member for credibility, but that lifestyle became all too real\u00a0when he was kidnapped\u00a0by one of his former gang associates in 2018. His would-be abductor Anthony \u201cHarv\u201d Ellison got caught and was sentenced to 24 years behind bars.<\/p>\n
