\u201cSaved by the Bell\u201d star Dustin Diamond\u00a0has died\u00a0after a brief battle with stage 4 cancer. He was 44 years old.<\/p>\n

The actor passed away Monday morning, his team announced\u00a0on Facebook, after being diagnosed just last month.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution,\u201d his team\u2019s statement said. \u201cDustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

His condition had declined drastically over the weekend and he had been taken off breathing tubes in order to transport him to hospice care,\u00a0according to TMZ. Diamond\u2019s father and his girlfriend were by his side when he passed.<\/p>\n

Diamond, best known for his role as Samuel \u201cScreech\u201d Powers on the beloved NBC show, which ran in the late \u201980s and early \u201990s, as well as spinoffs including \u201cThe New Class,\u201d was\u00a0hospitalized in mid-January\u00a0with widespread pain. He reportedly feared it was cancer because of his family history, including his mother\u2019s death from breast cancer.<\/p>\n

His team\u00a0confirmed his cancer diagnosis\u00a0just days later via social media, and he\u00a0started chemotherapy\u00a0immediately for stage 4 small cell carcinoma that had metastasized to his lungs.<\/p>\n

Following Diamond\u2019s death, the actor\u2019s team called him \u201ca character in and of himself: an unpredictable spitfire who always left us shocked, but never left us bored.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

\u201cWe are thankful he trusted us enough to share his genuine, authentic self with our team. We wish you knew him in the way that we did,\u201d the team\u2019s statement read.<\/p>\n

Following his diagnosis, Diamond\u2019s former \u201cSaved by the Bell\u201d co-stars Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen\u00a0sent messages of support, though Diamond had difficult relationships with some of his former cast mates after his scathing 2009 book that\u00a0detailed his time on the show. He\u00a0was noticeably absent from\u00a0a popular 2015 \u201cSaved by the Bell\u201d reunion on \u201cThe Tonight Show,\u201d as well as the recent Peacock reboot of the show.<\/p>\n

A pal later\u00a0told the Sun\u00a0that Diamond\u2019s dying wishes were to meet the bassist from his favorite band, Tool, and visit Disney World.<\/p>\n
