This \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel is finally being adapted, long after fans began asking for it.<\/p>\n

George R. R. Martin\u2019s three-novella series \u201cTales of Dunk and Egg\u201d \u2014 which takes place 90 years before \u201cA Song of Ice and Fire\u201d \u2014 is in early development at HBO, insiders\u00a0told Variety.<\/p>\n

The books \u2014 1998\u2019s \u201cThe Hedge Knight,\u201d 2003\u2019s \u201cThe Sworn Sword\u201d and 2010\u2019s \u201cThe Mystery Knight\u201d \u2014 tell the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a youthful Aegon V Targaryen (Egg). They take place nearly a century ahead of the events in Martin\u2019s more famous TV-adapted fantasy series, which started with \u201cA Game of Thrones.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources told Variety that the show would feature one-hour episodes but does not have any writers or talent signed on. HBO is reportedly prioritizing the project due to the success of the \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d series. Martin and HBO reps declined to comment to Variety.<\/p>\n\n

A \u201cTales of Dunk and Egg\u201d series would be the second \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel to be made into a TV series. An adaptation of \u201cHouse of Dragon,\u201d which tells of the escalation toward Targaryen\u2019s Westeros civil war (called Dance of the Dragons) is\u00a0in the works\u00a0at HBO and set to debut in 2022.<\/p>\n

HBO is reportedly working on another \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel series.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 2017, HBO announced a number of \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d-related series were in the works, and fans responded with hopes that \u201cDunk and Egg\u201d would be among them.<\/p>\n

Martin, meanwhile, is still working on the next installment of his \u201cA Song of Ice and Fire\u201d series, titled \u201cThe Winds of Winter.\u201d He had set a deadline of July 29, 2020, for finishing it,\u00a0telling fans\u00a0they had his \u201cformal written permission to imprison\u201d him in a small cabin should he miss it \u2014 which he did.<\/p>\n
