Ivanka Trump was left \u201csurprised and hurt\u201d by sister-in-law Karlie Kloss\u2019 social media comments amid the attack on Congress \u2014 as sources close to Kloss said the supermodel hasn\u2019t had a \u201cclose relationship\u201d with her for \u201cquite some time.\u201d<\/p>\n

As supporters of President Trump\u00a0laid siege to the Capitol building\u00a0on Wednesday, Ivanka posted \u2014 then deleted \u2014 a tweet\u00a0in which she called them \u201cAmerican Patriots.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few hours later, Kloss, who\u2019s\u00a0expecting her first child\u00a0with husband Josh Kushner \u2014\u00a0the younger brother of Ivanka\u2019s husband, Jared \u2014\u00a0tweeted, \u201cAccepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her post sparked an instant rebuke from one social media user, who fired back that she should \u201cTell your sister-in-law and brother-in-law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kloss responded: \u201cI\u2019ve tried.\u201d<\/p>\n

A friend of the family revealed: \u201cThe tweet was brought to Ivanka\u2019s\u00a0attention\u00a0and she was mostly surprised because they\u2019re so close and talk on a regular basis, but never really about politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider added that \u201cKarlie likes to position herself publicly as an activist, yet she\u2019s never approached Ivanka on any of the issues\u00a0[the model has] championed like paid maternal leave, women in STEM and criminal justice reform.\u201d<\/p>\n

They said that for Kloss to claim she\u2019s tried to discuss her different views is \u201csimply not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKarlie is public with her politics, but privately shies away from discussing them,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut they are very close and they really enjoy each other\u2019s company, so Ivanka is hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kloss later made it clear that she truly meant her tweet, as a source close to Karlie told Page Six: \u201cIvanka understands Karlie\u2019s views perfectly. They\u2019ve had many political discussions contrary to what she and her team would have you believe.<\/p>\n

\u201cKarlie was proud to campaign for Hillary in 2016, Biden in 2020, and, in addition to supporting many key issues, has made the maximum financial contribution to Democratic campaigns across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The source added: \u201cShe hasn\u2019t had a close relationship with them [Jared and Ivanka] for quite some time due to the policies of the Trump administration. I think Karlie feels it\u2019s pretty unfortunate that this is what Ivanka is choosing to spend her time on while our democracy is facing a crisis fueled by this administration.\u201d<\/p>\n
