Armie Hammer will exit his upcoming movie, \u201cShotgun Wedding,\u201d Page Six has confirmed, amid a brewing scandal involving alleged leaked messages from the star about his sex life.<\/p>\n

A source familiar with the project told us that Hammer is \u201cstepping away\u201d from the action comedy movie which is meant to go into production this year.<\/p>\n

A production spokesman confirmed to Page Six, \u201cGiven the imminent start date of \u2018Shotgun Wedding,\u2019 Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.\u201d The role will be recast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not responding to these bulls\u2013t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,\u201d Hammer said in a statement to Page Six, adding, \u201cLionsgate is supporting me in this and I\u2019m grateful to them for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennifer Lopez headlines the film helmed by \u201cPitch Perfect\u201d director Jason Moore.<\/p>\n

Ryan Reynolds was\u00a0previously meant to play the Hammer role, and is an executive producer on the film, which follows a couple with cold feet whose destination wedding is taken hostage. The film is being distributed in the US by Lionsgate, and last month\u00a0sold internationally\u00a0to Amazon Prime.<\/p>\n

The leaked messages alleged to be from Hammer describe fantasies of rape and cannibalism and were leaked by an anonymous social media account under the name House of Effie. The account claimed that a message from Hammer to a woman said that he\u2019s \u201c100 per cent a cannibal,\u201d while another gruesome message allegedly talked about \u201ccutting toes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources said that some in Hammer\u2019s camp have been trying to shore up support for the star around town. But even hardened Hollywood insiders seem rattled by the alleged messages. Either way, the situation certainly seems off-brand for Lopez, who is still riding high after her Hollywood hit, \u201cHustlers,\u201d and Super Bowl halftime show last year.<\/p>\n\n

Hammer\u2019s upcoming projects also include the thriller, \u201cThe Billion Dollar Spy,\u201d as well as a planned sequel to his 2017 hit \u201cCall Me By Your Name.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Social Network\u201d actor previously has\u00a0said in interviews\u00a0that he\u2019s a \u201cdominant lover\u201d who liked \u201cgrabbing women by the neck and hair.\u201d But he said that marrying his\u00a0now-estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, changed his sexual appetites. \u201cIt gets to a point where you say, \u2018I respect you too much to do these things that I kind of want to do,’\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
