Miley Cyrus\u00a0is reflecting on the lasting impact of\u00a0Hannah Montana.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with\u00a0Rolling Stone, the 28-year-old “Midnight Sky” singer \u2014 who was just 13 at the start of the Disney Channel show \u2014 opened up about some of the surprising ways the show has touched the lives of others, including a number of queer artists.<\/p>\n

“I had to evolve because Hannah was larger than life, larger than me. I felt like I was never going to amount to the success of Hannah Montana. That\u2019s how\u00a0Lil Nas X\u00a0actually knew of my dad. He grew up watching\u00a0Hannah Montana\u00a0and said, ‘I want to do a song with Robby Ray,’ ” she explained, referencing the character her father played on the show. “That\u2019s literally what happened. Being a young queer kid\u2019s idol that could turn out to be a Lil Nas X and create a whole identity for themselves off being inspired from watching me growing up.”<\/p>\n

“Or I hear artists like\u00a0Troye Sivan\u00a0say he felt more comfortable with his sexuality when I came out with ‘My Heart Beats for Love,\u2019\u201d she added, referencing her song off her 2010 album\u00a0Can\u2019t Be Tamed.<\/p>\n

Although Cyrus hasn\u2019t always\u00a0looked back fondly\u00a0on her star-making role, she\u2019s learned to embrace it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen my peers are having these experiences and accepting themselves because of something that I demonstrated while they were a kid, that\u2019s when I go, ‘S\u2014, I f\u2014ing am Hannah Montana,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

“Really, Hannah Montana was not a character,\u201d she added. \u201cThe concept of the show, it\u2019s me. I\u2019ve had to really come to terms with that and not be third-person about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Earlier this year Cyrus even revealed that she would be\u00a0open to reprising the role\u00a0in the future.<\/p>\n

“You know what honestly, I try to put that wig on all the time,” she said back in August, when asked about a potential reboot. “She’s just in storage collecting dust and I’m ready to whip her out … The opportunity will present itself.”<\/p>\n

“I definitely would like to resurrect her at some point. She needs a big makeover because she’s kinda stuck in 2008, so we’ll need to go shopping with Miss Montana,\u201d the Grammy-nominated singer continued. “But that’s sometime in the future and hopefully I’m directing it.\u201d<\/p>\n
