\u201cSNL\u201d star Pete Davidson said the anti-COVID lockdown protests there make the borough\u2019s residents look like \u201cbabies\u201d \u2014 but quipped that he\u2019s glad that he\u2019s no longer the \u201cworst thing about Staten Island,\u201d his native borough.<\/p>\n

The \u201cKing of Staten Island\u201d comedian riffed on the rallies outside the bar that\u00a0declared itself a COVID-19 restriction \u201cautonomous zone\u201d\u00a0when he\u00a0appeared on the \u201cWeekend Update\u201d segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the protests, people were outside the bar shouting about freedom, talking to cops, chanting that they should arrest the governor so I just assumed that it was a typical last call,\u201d Davidson said.<\/p>\n

Davidson explained that the bar, Mac\u2019s Public House, is located in a \u201cneighborhood with the second-highest COVID infections in all of New York, so the rule is that they\u2019re only supposed to let people eat or drink outside.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the owner said, no one wants to do that because they\u2019ll go out of business,\u201d
\nDavidson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the argument that people in Staten Island don\u2019t want to drink outside can be disproven by going to literally any Little League game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Davidson said he was \u201ckind of\u201d against the protests, but at least he\u2019s \u201cno longer the first thing people think of when they say, \u2018What\u2019s the worst thing about Staten Island?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He claimed that the protesters were making Staten Islanders \u201clook like babies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know it\u2019s bad when people in Boston are like, \u2018Ahh, drink at home, you queers!\u2019\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

Mac\u2019s Public House has continued to\u00a0serve customers indoors throughout the week\u00a0despite a shut-down order by the state Health Department and the revocation of its liquor license.<\/p>\n
