A Texas waitress says she was thrilled to receive a $2,000 tip on a bill \u2014 only to find out from the restaurant that she won\u2019t take home a single cent.<\/p>\n

Emily Bauer had only been a server for about two weeks when she was scheduled for a busy Sunday shift at Red Hook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio,\u00a0news station KVUE reported.<\/p>\n

While working all the tables, she kept apologizing to a man seated in her section for \u201cbeing slow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was just like, \u2018I understand.\u2019 He also mentioned he owned restaurants, so he knew how hard it was to be a server,\u201d Bauer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was like, \u2018Just cancel everything. Cancel everything and give me the ticket.\u2019 So, I said okay. I gave him the ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bauer said she didn\u2019t notice until he left that he had given her a $2,000 tip and wrote a note that said, \u201cMerry Christmas! Keep working hard!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, wait. I just opened it and started crying. I was like, \u2018Oh my God! My kids! I\u2019m going to spend it all on my kids,\u2019\u201d said Bauer, who has two sons, a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh my God. I\u2019ve never had a Christmas where I\u2019ve been able to like splurge on them.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

But she said her excitement was quickly dashed when the restaurant told her it can\u2019t process a tip larger than $500.<\/p>\n

Other servers suggested that the restaurant give her four separate tips of $500, but the seafood joint refused, KVUE reported.<\/p>\n

It is unclear why the restaurant couldn\u2019t process $500 of the $2,000 tip to give to Bauer, in line with its limits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s our responsibility as a server to say, \u2018Oh, you can\u2019t tip me that much, I\u2019m sorry. Oh no, there\u2019s a limit, I\u2019m sorry,’\u201d Bauer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf that\u2019s the case, there should be signs posted on the restaurants or the receipt to say there\u2019s a limit of $500.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bauer said the customer received word that she won\u2019t get the tip and called the restaurant to express his disappointment, KVUE reported.<\/p>\n

When she asked to call him to express her gratitude, her manager said his information hadn\u2019t been taken down, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n\n

Instead, she\u2019s shared the message to Facebook in hopes that it reaches the customer.<\/p>\n

The restaurant didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment, KVUE reported.<\/p>\n
