Francia Raisa spoke out Saturday in response to\u00a0the criticism the \u201cSaved by the Bell\u201d reboot has received\u00a0for referencing Selena Gomez\u2019s past kidney transplant in a recent episode.<\/p>\n

Raisa \u2014\u00a0who donated a kidney to Gomez\u00a0in 2017 amid the 28-year-old pop star\u2019s lupus battle \u2014 said on her Instagram story while she has received personal apologies from some involved with the show, she noted how donors could have also been offended by the content aired.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the cast and producers have reached out to me personally to apologize for this and I truly appreciate that, but I do want to acknowledge that this public apology from the network should acknowledge the donors that could have been offended by this. It\u2019s not about me, it\u2019s about acknowledging the great role that donors play @nbc @peacock #savedbythebell,\u201d Raisa shared on her Instagram story.<\/p>\n\n

In one episode of the \u201cSaved by the Bell\u201d revamp, which premiered on NBC\u2019s streaming service Peacock this week, two students are seen debating about the identity of Gomez\u2019s kidney donor,\u00a0via The Wrap. A graffiti message, \u201cDoes Selena Gomez even have a kidney,\u201d appears to be written on the wall in a separate scene.<\/p>\n

Peacock, NBCUniversal, and the series\u2019 executive producers issued an apology Saturday,\u00a0telling Variety in a statement: \u201cWe apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena\u2019s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raisa, 32, also addressed the public statement on Twitter,\u00a0posting: \u201cAppreciate the apology but let\u2019s not forget about the donors that potentially felt offended and dismissed from the spray paint written on the wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following her kidney transplant, Gomez publicly thanked Raisa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere aren\u2019t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me,\u201d Gomez posted to Instagram at the time. \u201cI am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.\u201d<\/p>\n

A rep for Gomez did not immediately return our request for comment.<\/p>\n
