Pennsylvania\u2019s Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned an order requiring that election observers be\u00a0allowed within six feet\u00a0of ballot-counting operations.<\/p>\n

In its decision, the court said state law only requires that observers be allowed \u201cin the room\u201d where ballots are counted and does not mandate a minimum distance,\u00a0NBC News said.<\/p>\n

The 5-2 majority opinion also found that the Philadelphia Board of Elections \u201cdid not act contrary to the law in fashioning its regulations governing the positioning of candidate representatives,\u201d\u00a0according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.<\/p>\n

\u201cCritically, we find the board\u2019s regulations\u2026were reasonable,\u201d Justice Debra Todd wrote.<\/p>\n

The ruling reverses a Nov. 5 order in which Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Judge Christine Fizzano Cannon sided with the Trump campaign and agreed to reduce the 25-foot distance from which \u201ccandidates, watchers or candidate representatives\u201d could watch the votes being counted.<\/p>\n

It also undercuts allegations by President Trump\u2019s campaign that his supporters were illegally prevented from observing the tabulation process that\u2019s projected to have helped Joe Biden capture the White House.<\/p>\n

Those claims are included in a pending federal suit in which the Trump campaign is\u00a0challenging the election results\u00a0in the Keystone State, although the campaign is no longer seeking to toss out any ballots on those grounds.<\/p>\n
