Ruth Wilson has said she quit\u00a0The Affair\u00a0<\/em>because \u201cthings didn’t feel right\u201d and she \u201cdidn\u2019t feel safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old actress starred opposite\u00a0Dominic West\u00a0in the hit Showtime series for four years before leaving amid reports of a toxic work environment and too many sex scenes.<\/p>\n

Wilson has now spoken out about her departure, telling\u00a0Stylist\u00a0<\/em>magazine: \u201cThe reason I haven’t gone into\u00a0The Affair<\/em>\u00a0is that I haven’t worked out how to discuss it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s a lot of noise and anger surrounding it, and really the power rests with me to choose how I discuss my life and my experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat’s important to say is that I did speak up. I did have a voice. I did stand up for myself. There was a situation on\u00a0The Affair\u00a0<\/em>where things didn’t feel right, and I dealt with them, and I managed to protect myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cIt was before #MeToo and before Harvey Weinstein \u2014 and yet my instincts were very clear and strong about what I felt was wrong, about what was going on, and what I didn’t feel safe about.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0His Dark Materials<\/em>\u00a0star quit the series in 2018 ahead of its final season.<\/p>\n

When the actress announced Season 4 would be her last,\u00a0she told\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0her departure wasn’t about “pay parity” or “taking other jobs,” hinting “there is a much bigger story.”<\/p>\n

At the time there were\u00a0reports that the show\u2019s creator and executive producer, Sarah Treem, put pressure on cast members to take part in sex scenes, creating an uncomfortable feeling on set.<\/p>\n

A source with firsthand knowledge of the production told\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>:\u00a0<\/em>“There was a culture problem at the show from the very beginning and a tone-deafness from Sarah Treem about recognizing the position she was putting actors in.<\/p>\n
