While\u00a0Taylor Swift\u00a0caught some flak after endorsing former Vice President\u00a0Joe Biden,\u00a0Howard Stern\u00a0is all about her relatively new political activism.<\/p>\n
\u201cCelebrities who won\u2019t say who they\u2019re voting for because they don\u2019t want to piss off their public \u2014 f*** you too!\u201d Stern said Monday on his SiriusXM show. \u201cLike Taylor Swift, good for her. She has like 83 million followers and she came out and said who she\u2019s voting for and I\u2019m like good, that\u2019s standing up for your country.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of Monday afternoon, Swift actually has 87.4 million followers on Twitter, making hers one of the most popular accounts on the social media platform. The \u201cExile\u201d singer, who had\u00a0consciously stayed silent\u00a0on politics until October 2018, has advocated for Biden this election cycle.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sure her handlers were telling her \u2018Don\u2019t say anything, you\u2019ll make people angry. You don\u2019t want to be like the Dixie Chicks and be political,” said Stern, who also supports President\u00a0Donald Trump\u2019s opponent. \u201cF*** that! Be like the Dixie Chicks.\u201d<\/p>\n
The newly renamed the Chicks, of course, were ostracized from country music, the genre in which Swift began her career, after their lead singer, Natalie Maines, spoke out against President George W. Bush in 2003. Swift has\u00a0specifically cited\u00a0seeing that band\u2019s experience as a reason she stayed away from politics. She eventually changed her mind, she said, because her moral compass was telling her to do so. And she hasn\u2019t looked back, when it comes to issues, such as LGBTQ rights or her preferred candidates.<\/p>\n
Swift\u00a0officially endorsed Biden\u00a0on Oct. 7. On Monday, she reminded followers to vote and included artwork of Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris in the short video message.<\/p>\n
Stern also praised singer Marc Anthony for urging voters in Puerto Rico to join him in backing Biden.<\/p>\n
