With a two-year marriage and an unwavering religious faith, Justin Bieber is in \u201cthe best place\u201d of his life, albeit with some growing pains.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the 26-year-old star mused on maturing from a 13-year-old YouTuber to a global hitmaker in the YouTube special\u00a0Justin Bieber: Next Chapter,\u00a0which followed his 10-part February series\u00a0Justin Bieber: Seasons, a look into his battle with Lyme disease and his marriage to Hailey Baldwin, 23.<\/p>\n

Filming the Oct. 16 music video for\u00a0Lonely\u00a0\u2014 a flashback to early fame \u2014 brought Bieber back. \u201cWhen I was 15\u2026 I was so surrounded. Millions of people in the audience, but I still felt lonely. I still felt misunderstood. I still felt hurt,\u201d he said in\u00a0Next Chapter. \u201cI just had no idea what was to come. I had no idea that this life would take me by storm. I had no idea that I would get sucked up by all of this stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

After manager\u00a0Scooter Braun discovered Bieber\u00a0on YouTube and singer Usher introduced him to industry execs,\u00a0Bieber released his 2009 album\u00a0My World\u00a0containing the hit \u201cOne Less Lonely Girl\u201d; in 2010, he debuted the single\u00a0Baby.<\/p>\n

But not all admired the teen heartthrob. \u201cThere were so many people who were just so mean,\u201d he said in the documentary. \u201cRandom people saying like, \u2018You suck! You look like a girl!\u2019 I would shake it off and act like it didn\u2019t bother me, but that stuff bothered me. And then it affected how I acted and how I treated other people, and it\u2019s just this ongoing cycle of, like, hurt people, hurt people. I was just this young kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cMan, I think that there was times where I was really, really suicidal \u2014 like, is this pain ever going to go away? It was so consistent. The pain was so consistent. I was just suffering, right? So I\u2019m just like, \u2018Man, I would rather not feel this than feel this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer\u2019s legal and personal troubles also drew eyeballs: In 2014, he pled guilty to\u00a0careless driving and resisting arrest\u00a0after drag racing in Miami, Fla. and paid an\u00a0$80,000 restitution fee\u00a0for egging a former neighbor\u2019s home in Los Angeles, Calif. Beiber\u2019s long-winded romance with singer Selena Gomez ended in 2018 (she later\u00a0referred to the relationship as emotional \u201cabuse\u201d), he got backlash for making a verbal gaffe about\u00a0Holocaust victim Anne Frank\u00a0and developed a\u00a0marijuana dependency.<\/p>\n
