Lily Collins\u00a0has addressed the negative criticism surrounding\u00a0Emily in Paris\u00a0for the first time.<\/p>\n

Collins stars in the\u00a0Netflix\u00a0comedy-drama as Emily, an American expat who travels to Paris for work and becomes an influencer.<\/p>\n

But despite being a big hit for the streaming service, the show was\u00a0near-universally panned by critics, with many French viewers in particular accusing the show of\u00a0perpetuating insulting stereotypes about the country.<\/p>\n

In a new interview, Collins admitted that, while it was never nice reading negative reviews or comments about a project, she would be able to learn from the critiques.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs disheartening as it sometimes is to read these things, it\u2019s also a gift; you\u2019re being allowed to improve,\u201d she told\u00a0Vogue Arabia.<\/p>\n

Speaking about a\u00a0potential second season of the show, Collins said that she hoped to evolve the narrative around her character.<\/p>\n

She also stressed that the show\u2019s creators, including Darren Star, had \u201cchampioned my opinions and opened me up to an experience that was so rewarding and empowering\u201d on set.<\/p>\n

Last week, showrunner Star also addressed the backlash to\u00a0Emily in Paris,\u00a0refusing to apologise for the series\u2019 perceived stereotyping of French people.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe show is a love letter to Paris through the eyes of this American girl who has never been there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing she is seeing is the clich\u00e9s because it’s from her point of view. I\u2019m not sorry for looking at Paris through a glamorous lens. It\u2019s a beautiful city, and I wanted to do a show that celebrated that part of Paris.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0one-star review,\u00a0The Independent\u2019s Ed Cumming warned that anybody who had ever been to the French capital should \u201csteer clear\u201d of the \u201cdire\u201d new show.<\/p>\n
