The model penned an open letter about the ins and outs of her pregnancy\u2014and that she doesn\u2019t want to know her baby\u2019s\u00a0gender\u00a0until her child is 18 years old.<\/p>\n
She writes, \u201cWhen my husband and I tell friends that I\u2019m pregnant, their first question after \u2018Congratulations\u2019 is almost always \u2018Do you know what you want?\u2019 We like to respond that we won\u2019t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they\u2019ll let us know then. Everyone laughs at this.\u201d<\/p>\n
She continues, \u201cThere is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who\u2014rather than what\u2014is growing inside my belly. Who will this person be? What kind of person will we become parents to? How will they change our lives and who we are? This is a wondrous and terrifying concept, one that renders us both helpless and humbled.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
