TikTok on Monday sued the Trump administration for ordering its Chinese parent company to sell the mega-popular app\u2019s US business.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0blog post\u00a0called \u201cWhy we are suing the Administration,\u201d TikTok said President Trump\u2019s \u201cheavily politicized\u201d executive order had the \u201cpotential to strip the rights of that community without any evidence to justify such an extreme action, and without any due process.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not take suing the government lightly, however we feel we have no choice but to take action to protect our rights, and the rights of our community and employees,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n

Trump earlier this month signed an order requiring Beijing-based ByteDance to\u00a0sell off its US TikTok assets\u00a0within 90 days or see the app banned.<\/p>\n

In addition to violating the due process protections provided by the Fifth Amendment, TikTok said the order is \u201cnot based on a bona fide national emergency and authorizes the prohibition of activities that have not been found to pose \u2018an unusual and extraordinary threat.’\u201d<\/p>\n

TikTok, which has skyrocketed in popularity for its often funny short-form videos, accused the Trump administration of ignoring its \u201cextensive efforts to address its concerns,\u201d noting that it \u201cprovided voluminous documentation to the US government documenting TikTok\u2019s security practices and made commitments that were more than sufficient to address any conceivable US government privacy or national security concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

TikTok has been the subject of intense scrutiny from US public officials over concerns the Chinese government could force ByteDance to give up valuable user information.<\/p>\n

Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have\u00a0suggested the app pipes data to the Chinese Communist Party. TikTok denies it.<\/p>\n

In 2017, China enacted the \u201cNational Intelligence Law,\u201d which states that \u201cAny organization or citizen shall support, assist and cooperate with the state intelligence work.\u201d<\/p>\n
