Lately, DeGeneres, 62, who famously\u00a0tells viewers to \u201cbe kind\u201d\u00a0at the end of her show, hasn\u2019t been getting away with it.<\/p>\n
Over the past few weeks, DeGeneres\u00a0has been criticized\u00a0for comparing the coronavirus lockdown to\u00a0\u201cbeing in jail\u201d\u00a0even as she posts Instagram videos of herself in\u00a0her $27 million Balinese-style mansion near Santa Barbara, Calif.\u00a0She was also accused, in a report leaked to Variety,\u00a0of\u00a0cutting her talk show\u2019s union show crew\u00a0in favor of freelancers. (A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Television, which distributes Ellen\u2019s show, told Variety that the change was cleared with union reps and no crew member lost a job.)<\/p>\n
Adv<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n Then there\u2019s the\u00a0Twitter thread branding her \u201cone of the meanest people alive\u201d\u00a0for allegedly complaining about a waitress\u2019 nail polish and ordering that underlings not make eye contact with her.<\/p>\n And last week, a former security guard who served as bodyguard to DeGeneres and her family when the comedian was hosting the 2014 Academy Awards\u00a0told Fox News\u00a0that she was very unfriendly.<\/p>\n \u201cEllen pretty much just gave me a side glance out of her eye and didn\u2019t even say \u2018hello,\u2019 or \u2018thank you for protecting my mother, my wife and me,’\u201d Tom Majercak said. \u201cIt was very cold and it was very sly and it was actually kind of demeaning in the way that she treats people other than those who are in her circle.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s so busy and rich. Porter, who started the Twitter thread, told The Post that the star\u2019s not-really-that-nice attitude was an \u201copen secret\u201d in Hollywood and that he had heard numerous stories from friends of his who worked with her. \u201cThere\u2019s always been this whisper network about her notorious behavior,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n More than 2,250 people posted in the thread. (Porter admits there is no way of vetting the stories.)<\/p>\n Chris Farah, 35, an actress and stand-up comic, was one of the posters. She said she was a waitress at a vegan restaurant in LA in March 2014 when DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi came in for brunch. Farah said DeGeneres was not particularly friendly but didn\u2019t complain about anything to her.<\/p>\n A week later, Farah\u2019s manager pulled her aside.<\/p>\n \u201cHe asked me if I\u2019d served Ellen,\u201d Farah told the Post. \u201cI was really excited for a minute. I thought maybe she wanted to use me in her show. Then he told me that Ellen had written to the owner complaining that I had chipped nail polish. I couldn\u2019t believe it. She\u2019s so busy and rich.
