Stay informed with\u00a0<em>travel news<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>updates<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<p>The man finally removed the hood, bought his items and left.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Vons, fostering an environment of courtesy, dignity and respect is one of our highest priorities, and we work hard to hold everyone in our stores to these standards, including customers,\u201d Hill said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSan Diego is #NoPlaceForHate,\u201d Tammy Gillies, regional director of the Anti-Defamation League in San Diego, said on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Santee Mayor John Minto and residents said on social media that the man\u2019s actions did not represent the values of the city of almost 60,000 residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany thanks to all who stepped forward to curtail this sad reminder of intolerance,\u201d Minto said. \u201cSantee, its leaders and I will not tolerate such behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city has tried over the years to overcome a history of racially motivated incidents that led to nicknames such as \u201cKlantee\u201d and \u201cSantucky.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cSo troublesome in so many ways this is still happening in Santee at Vons,\u201d resident Tiam Tellez wrote on Facebook. \u201cDisgusting!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>County Supervisor Dianne Jacobs also condemned the shopper\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe images I\u2019ve seen are abhorrent,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cThis blatant racism has no place in Santee or any part of San Diego County. It is not who we are.
