Maitland Ward, who rose to fame on ABC\/Disney Channel\u2019s \u201cBoy Meets World,\u201d says she makes more money\u00a0in the adult entertainment industry\u00a0and has even been nominated for awards \u2014 take that, Academy!<\/p>\n
The actress, 42,\u00a0tells The Daily Beast\u00a0she recently was nominated for two Adult Video News Awards, a ceremony akin to the Academy Awards but for porn, for best three-way sex scene and best supporting actress.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen people say, \u2018She had to turn to porn,\u2019 I laugh, because this is a good thing and I\u2019m making more now,\u201d she says. \u201cIf you talked to my younger, more virginal soap-opera self, I never would have seen this coming out of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ward, who played Rachel McGuire, the bombshell redhead obsession of both Eric (Will Friedle) and Jack (Matthew Lawrence), says her career transition to porn happened by chance. After \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d ended in 2000, she booked a few bit parts in Hollywood before moving on to study theater and screenwriting in New York and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
But in 2013, as a 30-something actress, she says she got her big break at comic conventions while dressed up in sexy cosplay, which she posted on social media \u2014 much to her team\u2019s chagrin.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a publicist who was like, \u2018Stop putting up sexy pictures. They will not hire you for anything if you do that. Once you get past 30, 35, they don\u2019t hire you for doing sexy stuff. You should be auditioning to play Disney moms,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cHe thought he was giving me good advice, but it just wasn\u2019t my thing. I was typecast. I was seen as a wholesome comedy star, and I was trying to fight against that. I didn\u2019t want to play a Disney mom.\u201d<\/p>\n
Soon after, she discovered that her millions of Instagram fans wanted more, so she began selling adult content \u2014 including nude photos \u2014 online through a Snapchat premium account, porn app OnlyFans and content service Patreon.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor 2018, I was the No. 1 adult-content creator for Patreon,\u201d she says, \u201cand it put the power back in my hands. Studios wouldn\u2019t give me that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ward tells The Daily Beast she makes as much as five figures a month on OnlyFans alone, snagging $62,000 in her best month during 2018.<\/p>\n
Soon after, she started doing girl-on-girl sex scenes on her premium Snapchat account, something she calls \u201cjust another kind of performance,\u201d which led to her first feature porn role in \u201cDrive.\u201d She first announced her role in the 3\u00bd-hour \u201cerotic thriller\u201d\u00a0on Instagram, where she posts a slew of X-rated photos.<\/p>\n
Ward describes filming porn scenes as something that \u201cfeels natural.\u201d Now that she\u2019s the face of high-end XXX brand Deeper.com, she has no plans to slow down anytime soon and has several other porn projects in the works.<\/p>\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s insane! At my age, to come in and become a porn star?\u201d she says. \u201cI don\u2019t have a label either. I\u2019m just this grown woman who loves sex. One thing I really like is to surprise people, to shock them and to get them stirred up. I\u2019m going to keep doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n
But aside from the money, she\u2019s glad to still have her \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d fans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey say, I\u2019ve been masturbating to you all these years,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd you know, that\u2019s a feat that I will be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n
