Stay informed with\u00a0<em>travel news<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>updates<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<p>The conservative group, One Million Moms, complained to Bill Abbott, CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, which is Hallmark\u2019s parent company, after the network aired advertisements featuring the same-sex couple sharing a kiss at the altar.<\/p>\n<p>Molly Biwer, senior vice president for public affairs and communications at Hallmark, said in an interview that the network didn\u2019t want to \u201cgenerate controversy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hallmark brand is never going to be divisive. We don\u2019t want to generate controversy, we\u2019ve tried very hard to stay out of it,\u201d Biwer told the Associated Press. \u201cWe just felt it was in the best interest of the brand to pull them and not continue to generate controversy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zola submitted several ads to the Hallmark, which is currently in the midst of its highly-viewed holiday programming, but the network only pulled ones featuring the lesbian couple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only difference between the commercials that were flagged and the ones that were approved was that the commercials that did not meet Hallmark\u2019s standards included a lesbian couple kissing,\u201d said Mike Chi, Zola\u2019s chief marketing officer, in a statement. \u201dHallmark approved a commercial where a heterosexual couple kissed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The wedding-planning site said it will no longer be advertising on the channel.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cAll kisses, couples and marriages are equal celebrations of love and we will no longer be advertising on Hallmark,\u201d Chi said.<\/p>\n<p>The network\u2019s decision to remove the ads was met by criticism, including from Ellen DeGeneres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsn\u2019t it almost 2020? @hallmarkchannel, @billabbottHC\u2026 what are you thinking?
