Stay informed with\u00a0<em>travel news<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>updates<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<p>Ocasek and his seminal new wave band The Cars shot to fame with their self-titled hit album in the 1978, which included hits such as \u201cMy Best Friend\u2019s Girl\u201d and \u201cJust What I Needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The singer reflected on his years in the band when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s certainly a wonderful feeling to be accepted by peers and you see the people that are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who gets inducted, it\u2019s a positive feeling that you get,\u201d Ocasek said in an interview with Rolling Stone.<\/p>\n<p>From 1978 to 1987, the band churned\u00a0 out six records \u2014 \u201cfive of which are good-to-great,\u201d said Erik Adams, an AV Club music critic, in a 2018 article.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then there are The Cars, the type of band that put out a perfect debut record, and then had the audacity to not pack it in after that,\u201d the critic wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In 1984, the band received another notable accolade, winning MTV\u2019s \u201cVideo of the Year\u201d award for its hit song off its 5th album, \u201cYou Might Think.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>After a long hiatus, the band reunited in 2011 and released an album called \u201cMove Like This.\u201d It was the band\u2019s first, and only, album without late- bassist Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Ocasek had recently placed the home where he was found\u00a0on the market\u00a0after he and Porizkova\u00a0announced their split\u00a0in May 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The pair \u2014 who shared two children together \u2014 had been together for 28 years when they separated.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of iconic new wave rock band The Cars, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, law enforcement sources told The Post.
