Stay informed with\u00a0<em>travel news<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>updates<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"box shadow  \"><div class=\"box-inner-block\"><i class=\"fa tie-shortcode-boxicon\"><\/i>\n\t\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SDsRnCehQQo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Ice cream mogul Dimitrios Tsirkos \u2014 who founded New York Ice Cream, which has been\u00a0locked in a bitter turf war\u00a0with Mister Softee \u2014 was named in the complaint, along with five others.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriffs say Tsirkos and the others actually own a total of about 76 delinquent treat-mobiles that owe a combined $4.5 million for offenses including speeding, running red lights and illegally using bus lanes.<\/p>\n<p>But officials started Wednesday by seizing the 46 worst offending trucks, which all owe at least $10,000 a piece.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint \u2014 which also names Athanasios Fotinakopoulos, Hele \u201cEleni\u201d Fotinakopoulos, Tommy Dalageorgos, Michael A. Vasiadis and Antonio Tsatsaros as company honchos \u2014 lists nearly 100 phony companies.<\/p>\n\n<p>The vehicles are being held in Sheriff\u2019s Office custody while the city continues to build its case, law enforcement sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The owners could get them if they pony up the outstanding fines plus potential fees and damages, a spokesman for the city\u2019s Finance Department said.<\/p>\n<p>But officials wouldn\u2019t say if they will also face criminal prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe civil component is complete and there are other components that the Sheriff\u2019s Office will continue to investigate,\u201d a source told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time Tsirkos has been implicated in shady ice-cream dealings.<\/p>\n<p>Mister Softee sued Tsirkos, a former franchisee, in 2014 for copyright infringement after he started a breakaway company called \u201cMaster Softee\u201d with the same branding \u2014 and the two settled out of court.<\/p>\n<p>A Mister Softee boss acknowledged the hit to New York Ice Cream spells a boon for his own company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never want to be in a position where I\u2019m excited about someone else misfortune but they were doing the wrong things here and operating in the wrong way \u2014 but yes it kinda presents a unique opportunity,\u201d Mister Softee vice-president Jim Conway told The Post Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>But New York Ice Cream drivers weren\u2019t so thrilled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, they will be happy but I\u2019m not happy about that,\u201d groused one frustrated after he watched his meal-ticket get hauled off by sheriffs.<\/p>\n<p>The worker claimed their bosses had told drivers they were paying the tickets \u2014 and then garnished wages of the drivers who incurred them.<\/p>\n<p>Now dozens of drivers are left in the lurch just as the summer season is about to get into full swing.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThis is not good. I\u2019m trying to make some money. I got a family, I have to support them,\u201d said a driver of four years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just angry because I\u2019m not going to have a good summer. I work seven days a week for three months (in the summer).
