Even when flying as grown adults, we sometimes (OK, nearly always) scream and get teary in the face of turbulence – or because our seatmate won’t share the armrest, because we had to check our carry-on, because the in-flight entertainment isn’t working. So it\u2019s not surprising that Arielle Noa Charnas\u2019s 9-month-old daughter Ruby had a tough time on a Delta flight from New York to Los Angeles. It was her very first time on a plane, after all.<\/p>\n
Charnas explained on Instagram that she and her husband had paid for the extra-room first class seats offer so they could lie down with Ruby and try to keep her calm(er) in case this very situation arose. But her fellow passengers were apparently giving “tons of eyerolls” at even the sight of a baby. Boo.<\/p>\n
After 10 minutes of Ruby’s screaming and crying, Charnas said a flight attendant approached her “and asked me and my baby to move to the back of the plane (as if the people in the back didn’t matter).\u201d Allegedly, the attendant explained that the move had to happen because the noise was \u201cupsetting” the other first class passengers, and leading to “a lot of complaints.” (Charnas does not say whether any of the passengers addressed her, or the situation, directly – or, for that matter, whether her husband was asked to move also.)<\/p>\n
Charnas admits that she then began crying, because she was “stressed and anxious.” \u201cInstead of the stewardess being helpful and compassionate, she instead made the situation worse,” she wrote. FYI: Arielle refused to move from her seat and, after crying herself out, Ruby slept for the rest of the flight.<\/p>\n
Asking her Instagram followers for their thoughts, and how they would have dealt with the situation, Charnas’s post has since had over 22,000 likes, with the majority of commenters siding with her and expressing outrage toward the airline and aforementioned stewardess.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines released the following statement to People<\/em>: \u201cDelta flight attendants are trained to provide safe transport and excellent customers service.
