Matarrita, now 33, blushed with embarrassment. Stay informed with\u00a0<em>travel news<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>updates<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<p>Matarrita and Bisesi\u2019s age-gap relationship \u2014 chronicled on their Instagram page,&nbsp;@agelesslovers&nbsp;\u2014 is going strong, despite initial naysaying from their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people thought it was ridiculous,\u201d says Bisesi, a restaurant and nightclub owner from LA who met Matarrita at one of his bars. \u201cBut seven years on, we are still together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, the couple\u2019s 20-year age gap is small compared to that of 2016 Princeton valedictorian Cameron Platt, 25, and her former professor, Lee Clark Mitchell, 71. The lovebirds&nbsp;recently made headlines&nbsp;for getting engaged, despite a whopping 46-year age difference.<\/p>\n<p>Psychotherapist Moshe Ratson, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Midtown, says many people wrongly assume age-gap love is doomed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you have a good foundation for your relationship and you have a common bond and values, there is no reason why it shouldn\u2019t succeed,\u201d he says. \u201cYou should live in the present moment. Who knows what is going to happen in the future? It\u2019s best to just go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was the case for Unitarian ministers Robin Tanner, 35, and her wife, Ann Marie Alderman, 65, who met through their church.<\/p>\n<p>The Summit, NJ, couple wed in 2005. They have three young children, whom Alderman increasingly looks after because of Tanner\u2019s busy schedule as a political and LGBTQ activist.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re with someone your own age, there can be a sense of competition in your career, but we\u2019re beyond that,\u201d says Tanner. \u201cWe work as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although their congregation has welcomed them with open arms, they nevertheless have encountered some prejudice over their 30-year age gap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne woman said to us, \u2018I don\u2019t know how you can do that. It would be like me dating my son,\u2019\u2009\u201d says Tanner.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60798\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/1235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/1235.jpg 642w, https:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/1235-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/1235-640x427.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lee Clark Mitchell, 71, and 2016 Princeton valedictorian Cameron Platt, 25, recently got engaged.<span class=\"credit\">Princeton.edu; Denise Applewhite<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Alderman says there are times when their age gap is \u201cmore apparent \u2014 like when I talk about having lived through the deaths of JFK and Martin Luther King.\u201d But emotionally, she thinks they even out. \u201cIn many ways, Robin is more traditional than me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catskills-based parents of three Blythe Carey, 59, and Howard Harrison, 83, have had their dynamic shift over the course of their relationship.<\/p>\n<p>The teacher and photographer, respectively, met in Manhattan in 1983 through mutual friends. Carey was fresh out of college, and, through their 24-year age gap, she quickly came to see Harrison as something of a father figure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was so much wiser and seemed like a safe thing, as a grown-up,\u201d says Carey. In hindsight, she says, she can see that the \u201cpower balance was a bit off at the beginning.\u201d But in the long term, she says, it\u2019s evened out \u2014 and they\u2019ve even swapped roles a bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHoward had some health issues recently, and I\u2019ve been able to be there, caring for him,\u201d she says. \u201cIf we were the same age, it might be different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That said, Carey thinks the 46-year age difference between Princeton\u2019s Platt and Mitchell \u201cdoes seem like a really big gap .\u2009.\u2009.
