Gayle King never thought she was in danger during her interview with R. Kelly that aired on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was never worried he was going to hurt me. I was more worried that he was going to get up and leave,\u201d she said in an article published by The Oprah Magazine after the sit down where the embattled R&B singer was extremely emotional and angrywhen discussing the sexual abuse charges and accusations leveled against him.<\/p>\n

Aired on \u201cCBS This Morning,\u201d the anchor remained composed as Kelly repeatedly punched his hand, hit his chest and at one point stood up to speak directly to the camera.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuit playing, I didn\u2019t do this stuff,\u201d he said at one point during the discussion. \u201cThis is not me. I\u2019m fighting for my f\u2014ing life.\u201d<\/p>\n

But King, who is editor-at-large of the magazine, was calm even as Kelly lashed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did worry at some points that he might accidentally hit me, because he was so angry that he was flailing,\u201d she admitted. \u201cBut I knew that I wasn\u2019t in any real danger. I just kept thinking \u2018Okay, Robert, go ahead\u2019 and that\u2019s what I said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Producers and his publicist also all called for a break after he lost his cool.<\/p>\n

King explained to the magazine that she met with Kelly about 15 minutes before the interview to prevent a \u201cdaunting\u201d situation; walking into a room filled with lights and cameras.<\/p>\n

She was told he would be open to talking about the accusations, but she wasn\u2019t allowed to ask about his alleged relationship with the late singer Aaliyah and \u201cthe newest charges, because it\u2019s an active court case.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he was angry,\u201d she said. \u201cHe did get angry, as you saw during the interview. But then he kept saying \u2018You said you wanted me to talk, let me talk.\u2019 So I did.\u201d<\/p>\n

King also interviewed Kelly\u2019s live-in girlfriends, Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, in an interview that will air in full on the network on Thursday.<\/p>\n
