{"id":5564,"date":"2017-01-02T14:25:41","date_gmt":"2017-01-02T14:25:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/?p=5564"},"modified":"2017-01-02T14:25:41","modified_gmt":"2017-01-02T14:25:41","slug":"kennedys-and-victims-family-react-to-michael-skakels-murder-re-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/?p=5564","title":{"rendered":"Kennedys and victim\u2019s family react to Michael Skakel\u2019s murder re-conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While one family matriarch\u2019s \u201cprayers have finally been answered,\u201d another\u2019s \u201cnightmare continues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Such is the turbulent story of Dorthy Moxley, 84, and Ethel Skakel Kennedy, 88, whose lives have been tragically linked since the October 1975 fatal bludgeoning of Moxley\u2019s 15-year-old daughter, Martha, by Kennedy\u2019s nephew, Michael Skakel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"teads-inread\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Moxley\u2019s joy and Kennedy\u2019s despair follow Friday\u2019s decision by the Connecticut Supreme Court to reinstate Skakel\u2019s 2002 murder conviction<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the answer to my holiday wish list,\u201d Moxley told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always knew there was no way to bring Martha back, so the only thing I could do was hope for justice,\u201d she said, her voice breaking. \u201cI have no doubt in my mind that Michael Skakel is the one who swung the golf club and killed my daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Skakel\u2019s aunt, Ethel, is \u201cfurious and devastated\u201d that her nephew will likely return to prison, according to close Kennedy sources.<\/p>\n<p>The devout Catholic \u2014 who lost her husband, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, to an assassin\u2019s bullet as he ran for the presidency in 1968 \u2014 has been \u201cpraying every day that Michael would finally and permanently win his freedom,\u201d a Kennedy insider said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEthel has always believed in Michael\u2019s innocence,\u201d the source said. \u201cShe feels the prosecutors and the court had a Kennedy vendetta.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5566\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5566\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/061716moxley20hs.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5566\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefastfashion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/061716moxley20hs.jpg\" alt=\"Dorthy Moxley\u2019s daughter, Martha, was killed in 1975.Helayne Seidman\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5566\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dorthy Moxley\u2019s daughter, Martha, was killed in 1975.Helayne Seidman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Skakel, 56, son of Ethel\u2019s late brother Rushton Skakel, had served a little over 11 years of a 20 years-to-life sentence for the Oct. 31 murder in Greenwich of Martha, who lived across the road. But he has been free since 2013 on $1.23 million bail, pending the high-court decision.<\/p>\n<p>A judge had granted Skakel a new trial, asserting that Skakel\u2019s defense lawyer, Mickey Sherman, did a lousy job. But the Connecticut court found Sherman \u201crendered constitutionally adequate representation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now a decision must be made whether to send Skakel back to prison. Moxley hopes that the new development will help both families finally find peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always felt that if .\u2009.\u2009. Michael Skakel was sent back to prison, I could finally be happy,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t wish anything bad for him at all.
