As temperatures dipped below freezing, intrepid straphangers still flocked to the city\u2019s subways to take part in Sunday\u2019s annual \u201cNo Pants Subway Ride.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe turnout is definitely down this year,\u201d said LJ Geraghty, who has traveled to the Big Apple for 14 straight years to take part in the internationally-celebrated, pants-less excursion.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old, from Boston, was bundled up in heavy layers to combat the 17-degree temps, with the exception of ruffled grey panties and bare thighs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wore my knee-highs this year, usually I just wear high heels,\u201d she said, as her 16-year-old niece stood nearby. The teen, also pants-less, denied she was cold despite her bright red legs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like pants anyway,\u201d said Deli Meehan, who was rocking classic briefs. \u201cI\u2019m wearing two pairs of socks, and two pairs of underwear.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event kicked-off at 3:00p.m. Sunday in New York City, with commuters converging at Union Station following the chilly jaunt.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely freezing my ass off, but hopefully not any other important parts,\u201d shivered 35-year-old Perry Ryan, a bartender from Queens who was wearing a heavy winter jacket and checkered boxers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI almost didn\u2019t do it because of the cold, but my buddies talked me into it and I didn\u2019t want to be the one to chicken out,\u201d Ryan said.<\/p>\n

Temperatures hovered around 17-degrees mid-afternoon, with an additional 10 degree wind-chill, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombeck.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always best to have at least more than one layer,\u201d said Dombeck when asked about the possible dangers of the frigid temps on bare skin. \u201cYou really don\u2019t want to be outside too long, I wouldn\u2019t press it beyond 15 or 20 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet the majority of pantsless riders seemed to be enjoying the stinging air.<\/p>\n

My legs are a little numb right now but I\u2019m pushing through. Cant let a little cold weather stop us,\u201d grinned 27-year-old art student Karina Valesco, who was sporting baby blue panties. \u201cI\u2019m proud to be out here today, freezing my tail off with all these awesome people. We\u2019re fearless!\u201d<\/p>\n

The event is organized by the group Improv Everywhere, which says its goal is to cause \u201cscenes of chaos and joy in public places.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first \u201cNo Pants Subway Ride,\u201d took place in 2002, with a mere six people Some 4,000 were expected to take part this year.<\/p>\n
