If you\u2019ve seen <\/span>Rogue One<\/em>, you know how it ends \u2014 and if you haven\u2019t seen it, I\u2019m about to spoil one of the biggest <\/span>Star Wars<\/em> <\/span>surprises to come out of that galaxy far, far away in quite some time. As Scarif is destroyed below, high up above the Rebels are rushing to get the Death Star plans safety into the hands of the best guardian for them: Princess Leia. Yup, <\/span>Princess Leia shows up in <\/span>Rogue One<\/em>, and I know what you\u2019re thinking\u2026<\/p>\n

WHAT?!<\/h2>\n

The ending of <\/span>Rogue One<\/em> <\/span>directly ties into the very beginning of <\/span>Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope<\/em>. There\u2019s probably like, 15 minutes between the end of <\/span>Rogue One<\/em> <\/span>and the beginning of <\/span>A New Hope,<\/em> <\/span>and that\u2019s crazy. What\u2019s even crazier is the fact that Princess Leia is in the movie, and she is, without a doubt, Carrie Fisher playing Princess Leia.<\/p>\n

Actors are aged up for roles all the time \u2014 but very rarely are they aged <\/span>down<\/em> <\/span>40 or so  years. It happened here with Rogue One<\/em>, and it\u2019s all thanks so some high-tech movie magic.<\/h2>\n

While Disney and Lucasfilm haven\u2019t released <\/span>exactly<\/em> <\/span>how they made this happen, it\u2019s easy to guess. A real, live actress, Ingvild Deila<\/a>, played Princess Leia in the movie, or rather, played the stand-in for Princess Leia. Remember how in <\/span>Ant-Man<\/em>, Michael Douglass was de-aged to look much younger and then in <\/span>Captain America: Civil War<\/em>, same thing for Robert Downy Jr.? Disney used a company called Lola VFX<\/a> <\/span>to do that, and basically the VFX company does their VFX magic to make someone look younger, and <\/span>that<\/em> <\/span>image is then superimposed over the character\u2019s stand in for their younger scenes in the movie. Tah-dah!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s actually 1,000% more technical and difficult than that, but that\u2019s the general gist.<\/h2>\n

So while that was Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the movie, that wasn\u2019t <\/span>exactly<\/em> <\/span>Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the movie. It was her (and probably footage from the original <\/span>Star Wars<\/em> <\/span>movie was used), but it wasn\u2019t her at the same time, and filmmaking is CRAZY. Fisher more than likely helped out a little with making her cameo happen \u2014 and she obviously knew it was happening and had to approve her likeness appearing in the movie \u2014 as she was listed in the credits as the very last (and apparently biggest) \u201cSpecial Thanks.\u201d<\/p>\n

And you know what, there\u2019s one downside to this cameo, and it needs to be addressed: Carrie Fisher was in <\/span>Rogue One<\/em> <\/span>all along, and we were totally deprived of a <\/span>glorious Carrie Fisher <\/span>Rogue One<\/em> <\/span>press tour<\/a>. Ugh, next year\u2019s <\/span>Episode VIII<\/em> <\/span>can\u2019t get here soon enough.<\/p>\n
