Playboy model Katie May would still be alive today if not for the chiropractor whose \u201cforceful” and “aggressive” adjustments tore an artery in her neck and <\/span><\/span>caused her fatal stroke, a new lawsuit filed Wednesday claims.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wrongful death and medical malpractice suit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court by Alex Maimon, the father of May\u2019s only child, 8-year-old Mia May-Maimon.<\/span><\/p>\n

It claims Maimon first tried to work with the insurance carrier for the chiropractor now being sued but got nowhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe carrier forced (Maimon) to file this action by refusing to attend a mediation to help Mia with some college money,\u201d the paperwork asserts.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit, May died February 4, 2016, after chiropractor Eric Swartz \u201cnegligently\u201d treated her at the Back to Total Health Wellness Center in West Hollywood.<\/span><\/p>\n

It says Swartz\u2019s \u201caggressive neck manipulation\u201d caused deadly \u201cbilateral vertebral artery dissections\u201d that blocked blood flow to May\u2019s brain and caused a stroke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Known as \u201cThe Queen of Snapchat,\u201d May sought treatment from Swartz for a known \u201ctrauma\u201d suffered during a photoshoot in which \u201cshe had to hold an awkward pose for a while,\u201d the lawsuit states.<\/span><\/p>\n

The paperwork claims Swartz should have recognized May\u2019s need to get a CT scan to accurately diagnose possible spine issues before treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA reasonable chiropractor in Dr. Swartz\u2019s position would not have adjusted May because of the risks involved and would have referred May to the emergency room,\u201d the lawsuit argues.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled May\u2019s death an accident but noted it was caused by a chiropractic adjustment.<\/span><\/p>\n

After her last adjustment, May complained of dizziness and headaches \u2014 and rushed to a hospital with difficulty speaking and left-sided weakness, the lawsuit states.<\/span><\/p>\n

She lost consciousness before her parents were able to fly in from out of state to see her.<\/span><\/p>\n

The parents later made the devastating decision to remove May from life support because doctors declared her brain dead, the lawsuit says.<\/span><\/p>\n
